While planning
the design of your commercial bathroom stalls, an
important consideration is whether you need an ADA
compliant bathroom stall. ADA Bathroom Stalls
usually include grab bars , larger stalls for the
clearance of a wheeled chair and the toilet to be
mounted higher on the wall. Requirements for an ADA
compliant Bathroom Stall can be found in
Section 4.17 of the American's with Disabilities
Act (ADA). State codes vary, check with your state's
building codes to ensure compliance. Click
here for a link to specific state codes and
always check with your contractor first on the
requirements of handicap accessible facilities.

Bathroom Grab Bars
Select from a wide range of grab bars
designed to fit your needs. |
|
 |
|
The ADA stresses the use of Grab bars as they help
prevent falls and add to the easy of use by
maintaining balance and transfer to the toilet
facility. The most important consideration in
selecting a grab is is the strength. A quality
commercial grab bar will be made of thick gauge type
304 stainless steel and will have a mounting kit
that includes stainless steel screws that are
capable of securing the grab bar and supporting
weights of at least 300 lbs. The bars must be strong
and the mounting must be sturdy or your commercial
grab bars will not supply the support your restroom
patrons rely on. Also, commercial grab bars should
have a finish that is easy to grip and have no sharp
edges.
4.17.6 Grab Bars. Grab bars
complying with the length and positioning shown in
Fig. 30(a),
(b),
(c),
and
(d)
shall be provided. Grab bars may be mounted with any
desired method as long as they have a gripping
surface at the locations shown and do not obstruct
the required clear floor area. Grab bars shall
comply with
4.26.
